League Game: 100k (Frazni) vs Nords (exTune)

Hello again lovely people!
Today we do have another battle report for you. This time it’s a game between me (Lukas) and Daniel, which we played for the League Daniel is hosting right now for our community. I have to say it is a great success and a lot of people are playing regularly, which they would probably not do otherwise <3

Since it is a League Game and Daniel and I played dozens of games against each other already, we decided to go back to our roots. So it was his Nords vs. my 100 Kingdoms, fully painted on a snowy terrain table.

We played the new Wheels of War scenario with the suggested terrain layout. I won (?) the role for the objective priority selection, so the clock started on my side of the board.

Round 1

He gets his raider on the board, I get my Militia Bowmen – that’s it.

Round 2

I get the Men At Arms with Mage and the Hunter Cadre thanks to flank. Easy deal.

He brings the Huskarls with Konungyr, Uflhednar with Shaman, Steel Shosen and the Trolls. A lot of stuff!
I do deploy very far back and even move the Militia backwards. I have a lot of Heavies and I know that I will play for the late game. All I need to do is to not lose my nerves and hold my army together.

He scored 4 points, I scored 2 points.

Round 3

Now the Fun begins!

I choose my Ashen Dawn with Priory Commander to arrive automatically and thanks to Flank I bring in the Gilded Legion AND the Steel Legion. The Crimson Tower fails to make it onto the battlefield, but that’s fine.

He gets his whole Army onto the table!

I do get my Vanguard thanks to being Imperial, so both of my Legions march up quite far. Thanks to me having so much heavies, I already knew where his units were and was able to deploy my units effectively. So the Gilded Legion went against the Trolls – a war of Attrition that I will win eventually, even though it takes a long time normally.

My Steel Legion wanted to face the Huskarls, even though they are really tough thanks to all their defensive buffs.

I also deployed my Ashen Dawn with Commander on my far left flank. Simply because there is nothing that can really kill them. And they will shred for days, thanks to the Commander.

So he puts his Pigs against the Ashen Dawn and hopes for some Damage next turn.
He also reinforces the trolls with a Mountain Jotnar to help kill the Gilded legion.

But he is on three zones, I am on one. So he scores 10(!) points to my 2. Thats okay though, I knew from the beginning of the game (even when I wrote my list) that this would happen. He will get an early lead, but thats completely intended in my list design.

Round 4, now it gets interesting!

On the right flank he moves his trolls in a way so my Gilded Legion cannot get onto the objective, while he will score it. My Gilded Legion charges into the trolls, doing like 16 wounds including resolve. That was a lot of damage!

While his Mountain Jotnar marches up and gets ready to charge the Gilded Legion next turn, I bring in the Crimson tower on the other flank of the Gilded Legion to protect them from a unit of Steel Chosen.

Daniel tries to charge the Chosen into my Crimson Tower, but fails the Charge on a 3 or 4 with ReRoll.

On the left flank the Huskarls retreat from the objective. They do not want to be charged by either the Steel Legion, nor the Ashen Dawn. So I move my Steel Legion onto the Zone to face some heavy destruction next turn.

Lastly, my Ashen Dawn March Charge into his Raiders, which moved backwards and in front of the Goltr to set up a countercharge for the next turn. Of course my Ashen Dawn obliterate the Raiders with Impacts thanks to the Priory Commander.

I score two zones (one is the priory one) for 6 points, he scores 2 zones for 4 points.

Round 5

I use my Orders Supremacy.
I go first here and to Daniel’s surprise, I do not activate the Ashen Dawn first, but the Gilded Legion. Which shred the trolls, leaving them on one base with 2 Wounds remaining.
He activates the Goltr first and charges into the Ashen Dawn right in front of them. But thanks to Hardened and Blessed I lose like 4 Wound or something – not even a whole stand!

My Crimson Tower goes next, charges into the Steel Chosen and completely mulches them. No Exalted Viking left.

He then charges his other Steel Chosen into the Steel Legion. Oh, he used Relentless Blows this turn. So the Steel Chosen scored 25 Hits with their 16 Attacks. Flurry and Relentless is a really cool combo! But I can save on 3’s and roll a bit over average and thanks to Oblivious I lose “only” 4 stands of Steel Legion.

My Ashen Dawn kills the Pigs without the need to Inspire, which allows them to reform and threaten the Flank of the Huskarls, which are stuck behind the Steel Chosen, who charge my Steel Legion. The Husks reform and charge into my Ashen Dawn and kill the wounded Stand with their Impacts.

Between shooting with the militia and clashing with the Steel Legion, I managed to kill the Steel Chosen, which was lucky on my part!

At this point the game is over.

Next turn I activate my Imperial Supremacy and will charge my Hunter Cadre into the Flank of the Huskarls, as well as the Steel Legion into their Rear.

His only chance is to go first, activate the Huskarls and try to kill the Ashen Dawn. Sadly he loses the Supremacy roll. But we rolled the attacks of the Huskarls anyway to see what would happen – and you guessed right, the Ashen Dawn (thanks to blessed) would not even have died to the Huskarls. They did not even come close to dying I think.

So we wrap it up at this point and it’s a GG for the Hundred Kingdoms!

What a Good and Fun Game of Conquest! Also the joy of two fully painted armies clashing is something really special <3

Final thoughts

So I had the theory that the new scenarios really allow for a slower gameplay with more Heavies and the potential to score late into the game. And I think this game shows that I might be onto something.
Of course I would not play the Steel Legion in a tournament list – because there is no reason to do so, if you simply play another brick of Gilded Legion. Also I would maybe consider going for a Sealed Temple Priory Commander to get the 4th Heavy out of the way, but the Terrifying on the Ashen Dawn is so, so good.

This list would take a lot more testing, which I don’t have the time for, since I am currently more of a Weaver Courts person. But for this game it was fun to put my 100K onto the table again and Daniel is a pleasure to play against (as always)!
