AmuletD20 – Tournament recap from “Frazni” with Weaver Courts – 4th Place

Hello people and welcome to my very own Wrap Up of the Amulet D20 GT!
It took place some weeks ago, but you can definitely argue that it was the biggest and most stacked Conquest tournament till now.

General Thanks and stuff

The trip to Medvode was – as always – a great pleasure and lots of fun! The people of Amulet D20 crushed it again and hosted a perfect event!
It was also super cool to see our newbies play at their very first tournament and do great! We had such a good time, talked a lot about Conquest, drank some beer and enjoyed being the Nerds we are!
Thanks to all of you people for making the weekend that great!

Preparation and list

We practiced a lot before the tournament and the hype was real. I myself tried a lot of different Weaver lists. In general I think that Weavers are in a great spot and the list variety is really good right now. We have one Warlord that is maybe not that good right now, but still playable, in the form of the Tao Sidhe. And only one unit that is absolutely not playable in a tournament environment – the Scatacha Hunters. Which could be fixed via a points drop easily. In general I think the internal balancing of Weaver Courts is fine. Maybe you could drop some points on Fianna and hopefully Morrowen as well (which are just too expensive right now).

So I came up with the following list. In the end this is for sure not the optimal list to go for. But I converted and painted my second unit of Wardens (so they throw big rocks to represent the AP2 shots) and I put a lot of effort into both Draics. The Coill Draic I converted to be a huge Spider-Dragon and I wanted to show off all my minis.

Don’t get me wrong, I still think that the list is good and has a lot of play into a lot of match-ups!

First game of the day and the tournament, let’s go!

Fallen Divinity is always scary, but I came prepared.

My opponent kept the Divinity in reserve till round 3, a smart decision so I cannot shoot her and he can deploy her at a part of the battlefield where she can be useful.

The game was decided in round 3, when my opponent had to move up his legionnaires with Archimandrite to score a zone on my left flank. Of course he did Dark Shephard one of the stands before, so they already lost some Wounds. To get onto the objective, he also got in range of my Kern with Rhun Sidhe – which did annihilate the Unit with the attached character instantly. So my opponent was down some scoring, a lot of cards and his healing.

He tried to hold the left flank with the Sepulcher, but between Kern and Wardens shooting, he lost too many wounds too quickly. So he went for a march + charge into my Kerns, only to get killed by them in melee.

The Fallen Divinity went into the center and reached tier 3 by turn 4. She marched and charged into my Wardens, killing some of them in the following round, only to get killed by spells, arrows, beetle-claws and a Scoth Draic descending from the Skies.

It was a great game, but Autumn Weavers are really well prepared to fight into Old Dominion, so my opponent fought an uphill battle from the beginning.

59 to 6 for my Weavers!

Not a whole lot of activations and four Heavies in Flames of Conquest. This will be wylde.

I rolled extremely badly for reinforcements, forcing me to play a defensive game for the first few rounds.

My opponent rolled fine and both of his hunting packs pushed up very aggressively. One of them marched 32 inches directly forward till the end of round 2. But the early pressure was the big mistake my opponent made.

I March-Charged one of the Hunting packs’ flanks with my Whisps at the end of turn 2, while I deployed Wardens directly in front of the other Hunting pack, throwing a Heat Haze into them and already killing a stand.

In turn 3 I won supremacy, activated the Mage for another Heat haze into the Wounded Hunting pack, killing the unit and entourage into my Wardens, who shot the second Hunting pack to death.

Being tilted a bit, my opponent threw his Winglord on the right side into my Wyrd Knights, trying to kill them with Impacts, but failed. Needless to say, the Knights obliterated the Winglord without hesitation.

So my opponent was down three cards and a lot of points starting turn 4, in which his lat Heavy arrived. The Tontorr charged down the center, but faced his biggest Nightmare – Whisps in a piece of Water terrain. The turn he charged, he did no Damage, hitting on 1s. The turns after, he still only hit on 2s. I would like to take a second to point out, that the Tontorr is one of the coolest models in Conquest and draws so many new players into the game. But playing with it does feel like shooting yourself into your own foot. It does not feel like a giant Dinosaur roaming the battlefield. Change it Para Bellum! Change it!

At this point, the game was done already and we wrapped it up. Thanks to my opponent for a great game!

95 to 19 for the Weavers!

Round 3 vs. Eliking134

Last game of the day and its against my boy Elias!

But instead of writing a battle report, you can watch the game! We played on stream and we would love to share some interaction with the Amulet D20 guys – so here is the link to twitch:

Round 4 – Rational Lawmaker / Breakout

I ended the first day with three wins, so I knew this game would be hard. When I saw the list my opponent brought, I wanted to puke immediately.
I have to say, I hate to play against City States right now. They are really not in a healthy position for the game and this list shows it more than anything 😀

My opponents list:

I wish I could give you people a good report of this game, because it was such a great and amazing game of Conquest! My opponent was also an amazing person and we had a really good time at the table.

Sadly, everything that made this game amazing was placing of regiments and micro decisions throughout the game, that I cannot recreate properly.
I had to respect the Polemarch supremacy, while also being pressured by four chariots (I hope chariots will be deleted in the update! (It’s a joke, but for real – I hate the concept of them!)). Three Giants provide enough power to kill whatever survives the shooting.

He put all his giants on the right flank, while Cows and all the shooting went onto the left flank. Three chariots and the polemarch went down the center. I did put my wardens into the middle with Whisps in front, trying to stop the Polemarch nonsense.
My right did see the Scoth Draic, ready to kill some Prometheans and also my Kern, some Wyrds and the Spider Dragon.

My Left was more Whisps, Wardens and Wyrds.

It was a lot of back and forth, we did respect our threat ranges and played a very technical game. Sadly, all of this took a lot of time and we ran out of time at turn 5 I believe. So we called a judge, since the rules pack said that we talk out every game and we could not agree how the game would end.

I won the left flank hard while my opponent did pressure the center and right flank. The gamestate was not really clear and the game could have swung into both directions. In my honest opinion, I still think that I would have won the game, but it’s really hard to say.

The judge decided that the next Supremacy roll would be the deciding factor, since his Promethean Oracle charged into the back of my Spider dragon. If he wins the Supremacy, the Oracle goes first and kills the Dragon, losing me the center.

So it came down to the next Supremacy roll. To make it even more intense, we both had the same amount of cards at this point! So it was a straight roll-off to see who won the game. Before the roll we shook hands, because this was an amazing game of Conquest and it was so much fun to play with my opponent!

Sadly, I lost the roll and the game ended 3 to 9 for the City states!

Again thanks to my opponent for a great game of Conquest and thanks to Tim, who did the best he could as a judge in this difficult position!

Round 5 vs. Extune / Wheel of War

After losing Game 4, I was down a bit, but on the other side I was relieved, because the pressure to perform went completely away. After some food and a good talk with my people, I was hyped for the next game! Only to get paired into my very good friend Daniel and his Nords. He also won every game of day 1 and also lost his first game of day 2.
Now we got paired into each other, so we knew that one of us would – at best – go 4:2.

Daniels list:

I hate playing against early pressure – but what can you do 😀

I knew that his Fenr can score the side zones turn 2. So I deployed my Whisps in a way to at least contest the zone which scores extra points.
I am not sure if Daniel did not see the move, or just felt pressured to go for that zone anyways, but he did put his Fenr onto the right zone (just one stand thanks to Fluid) and i Marched my Whisps as a last activation onto that zone, preventing the early lead of the Nords.

The Next chain of events was tragic and all of it happened on the right flank. My Kern shot at his Werewargs after they activated, dealing enough damage to kill one and wound the other enough so his regeneration would not bring a stand back.

His Fenr (who lost a stand to shooting the previous turn) reformed and marched towards his Backfield objective, trying to free the Goltr that sat there. But they could not get quite out of range of my Wardens, which moved up, spent some seed tokens and killed the remaining two stands. Huge!

My last activation saw the Whisps charge into the Werewargs. I did not want to kill them, but hurt them really badly, so the Goltr behind them would be trapped. But I killed the Wargs anyway – sheeeeesh!

The Goltr then charged and killed the Whisps with no problem.

But at this point, the right flank was already won, while Daniel slowly marched his way through the left flank with the help of the trolls. I however, was able to deny and slow down the scoring on the right flank long enough to kill everything at the right hand side and slowly but surely delete the Nords.

It was a great game against a great guy, but Nords do have a difficult match-up against the Weavers and Wheel of War is not a good scenario for them either.

56 to 24 for the Weavers!

Round 6 vs. Gnolix12 / Melee

Last game of the day and the tournament – of course into some polish proplayer 😀

At least no Speakers <3

The moment my opponent saw my list and the scenario, he knew that this game would be hard and I couldn’t agree more. His army simply does not have enough threats and also a lot of his damage is way too slow to be applied where needed. At the same time, none of his units are tanky in a way I care about.

The only reason this game was close for a time, was my absolute atrocious reinforcement rolls. I did not make any reinforcement whatsoever, only getting the units that I chose, had flank or had to come onto the battlefield due to battleround.

So my opponent scored like 10 points every round for the first few rounds, while I did score a few points here and there. I had to adapt my game drastically due to the reinforcements and play passive for the first 4 turns.

But after my army finally arrived, I started dismantling the Wadhrun. My shooting does hurt quiete a lot and my opponent does not have a single unit that can withstand a Wyrd Knight or Draic charge. I shot the Braves with Queen to Oblivion, while they tried to score points on the right objective. The Coil Draic starts killing Hunting packs and Hunters, while Wardens with the Mage shoot a Winglord to death over two turns.

The Veterans got blocked by Whisps and the set up Countercharge by the Scoth Draic killed them (okay, the Kern helped with one Volley to soften them up a bit).

It was a great game and my opponent did really well, but I think there is not a whole lot his list can do in this scenario against my list! Thanks for the game!

I have to say though, that I am really looking forward to a revisit of the reinforcement system <3

72 to 54 for the Weavers!

Wrap-up and Final thoughts

In the end I came up with 5 wins and 1 loss putting me in 4th place!
I am very happy, even though I missed the podium by one place, but at the same time, I improved one rank compared to last Amulet D20 GT 😀

Weavers do feel really strong right now and my list was a lot of fun to play on the tabletop! I will not play it again though, since it is a nightmare to transport! Also we are in a shooty meta right now and I think people will start preparing for some heavy shooting – so I will pivot away from ranged damage I guess.
Also, I played A LOT of Weavers within the last weeks and months, so I will take a short break, play some other faction and will come back to Weavers für BRNO in November. This time, with a completely different list.

Have a great day folks!
