Casual: 100k (Raphi) vs Nords (Daniel)

Hey everyone! Today I wanna share a quick battle report with you guys, which happened in our local group.
I got to play against Raphael (100k), who is a regular here and we both have a few casual as well as tournament games under our belt. Told him im coming with a bit more casual list (Unga Bunga Bois) for my Nords so I can test it out a bit for a small local tournament coming up on the weekend.

Without further ado, here is my List:

=== The Last Argument of Kings ===
The Unga Bunga Bois [1995/2000]
Nords
== Blooded [130]: Figurehead of the Naglfar
* Trolls (4) [240]:
* Trolls (3) [180]:
* Ugr (3) [150]:
* Ugr (3) [150]:
== Jotnar Seidr [260]: Skorge (Axe)
* Mountain Jotnar (1) [210]:
* Sea Jotnar (1) [240]:
== (Warlord) Shaman [105]: Ty Jokull, the Rimeheart
* Raiders (3) [120]:
* Mountain Jotnar (1) [210]:

My goals were simple: Pack some Ugr (which are rarely played) and as many Jotnars as I have painted into a list and get clobbering!
Personally I’d say, the fact that you cannot score on Turn 2 with this list hurts it the most, but as my goal was a rather more casual list with lesser used models from my shelve, which is still playable, I achieved it!

Raphels list was his try on Feudal/Theist. He is still waiting on his archangel for now!

=== The Last Argument of Kings ===
Feudal/Theist [2000/2000]
The Hundred Kingdoms
[object Object]
== (Warlord) Noble Lord [120]: Armor of Dominion, Weapon Master, Graceful Combatant, Front of the Line
* Household Guard (6) [285]: Armsmaster
* Mercenary Crossbowmen (3) [110]:
* Household Knights (3) [170]:
* Household Knights (3) [170]:
== Theist Priest [115]: Dynastic Ally, Elysian Fragment
* Crusaders (6) [260]: [Veteran]
* Sicarii (3) [160]:
== Noble Lord [120]: Caledburn, Duelist, Graceful Combatant, Eccentric Fighting Style
* Men at Arms (8) [260]:
== Chapter Mage [105]: School of Water, Art of War
* Mercenary Crossbowmen (3) [125]: [Veteran]

Raphael likes his reroll 6e and Blessed turn a lot, so he got going with the only sensible way: get as many Noble Lords and the Theist Priest in there.

Scenario: Grind them Down We randomly decided what we are going to play, it ended up being Grind them Down. The scenario is very hard to catch up to, if you lose out on the special declared zone (3pts) so my goal was to try and get it as often as I feasible can and try to deny it to my opponent.

Turn 1

The Setup was in and terrain were: in green two forests, in red two swamps (water, hindering, traversable) and in purple two impassable columns.

Turn 1 was rather unspectacular, I had my Raiders coming in with my Shaman on the middle, my opponent got both his Crossbows and Chapter mage in.

Turn 2:

Reinforcements for both of us were rather meagre: we both only rolled one more medium on board, however I had the advantage of my Blooded with forward force in my bigger Trolls.

I had a small think which regiment was more important for me, to get on board and into a zone and decided I’d rather have both my Trolls setup and farther upfront with one Ugr support. My Jötnars could come from the side if I wanted to for later.
Looking at the table I tried to concentrate my force more on the right side, because the impassable column limited my manoeuvrability so I deployed my bigger Trolls right down the middle, the smaller Trolls and Ugr on the far right side.

My opponent countered with his big Household Guard block also right down the middle, leapfrogging his Crossbows and chose his Crusaders for his second regiment. He put them straight in front of my Trolls, which I was quite happy with. I’d rather fight Crusaders with Trolls than Jötnars.

No scoring for this round, as we both have no fast units on the board.

Turn 3:

So I naturally picked my Seidr to come onto the board and my opponent had no heavies in the list and picked his MAA block for his one pick. The rolls did favour us both, we got both nearly all our remaining mediums on board, only boy missing out was my Sea Jotnar and his MSU Sicarii.
Turn 3 was also more setup for both of us: my Jotnars came storming down the left flank and I reinforced on the right side with my remaining Ugr behind te Raiders. He countered with his big MAA block and Household Knights on the left side.

Moving was cautious for both of us, I inched both trolls onto the zones, he went with his HHG block into the middle zone, with his crusaders and HHK on both the left and right zone.
Since 100k get bonus seizing on their command stands according to their resolve bonus my opponent outseized me in the middle, giving him the lead in turn 3.

Turn 4:

This turn some pieces started moving, but also nothing spectacular happening.
Sea Jotnar coming in for me and I decided to put him on the far right side, right behind my Ugr thinking I needed support on this side and trying not to clogg my middle up. Sicarii came on his left side. So every regiment was on the table.
We eyed each other a bit and I decided in the deckbuilding to put one of my Ugr last to maybe counter charge something if Raphi takes either the bait in the middle with his HHG or comes in with his HHK on the right flank.
We stepped a bit with our regiments onto some zones, he held back on the left flank, because his HHK were out of range of my Jötnars.
My last card was my Ugr and I knew his last card were his HHG, so i decided to go for a March-Charge onto his HHK but failed, leaving the Ugr stranded, however if he wanted to snack them with his HHG he would open himself up for a counter charge next turn.
In the middle his last activation were his HHG charging into my Troll block. I thought to myself they would be finde handling 1 or 2 turns of those guys but man, I always forget how many attack they have and with RR6 they did 15 wounds onto my troll block.
Nords scoring left zone and right zone, 100k scoring middle, left and right and getting farther ahead.

Time to do something!

Turn 5:

Okay, this turn many things happened as you can guess by the End-Of-Turn picture above.
My thinking before deckbuilding was mainly: his HHG, and his HHG on the right side both want to go first, either clapping the remaining Trolls or my Ugr. If I win the supremacy I rather want my Ugr to do something, either going into the the HHK right infront of them, or if they his 100k go first and my Ugr get maybe wiped I could countercahrge with my second Ugr in the woods and pinning the HHK, the rest of the board wasn’t as important in my mind.
Anyway: I won supremacy (I had advantage, yay) and charged right into his HHK with my Ugr, thinking they will shred them….. Well they did 3 wounds in total, but atleast I pinned them down. His activation were as I guessed it right his HHK and he used them on the right side as well but also only dealing 4 wounds to me back, so I guess it all evens out!
Nextup I had my Blooded encouraging into the Trolls for some desperate regeneration, getting back the full value because and trying to hit the HHG were they mostly bounced off.
He followed with his HHG and the regeneration saved my trolls with one stand left were I got lucky. Thinking back I am not sure if it was the right call going first with Ugr instead of the Trolls, because the big brick surviving in the middle helped keeping my opponents HHG in check and I was just lucky going first this round.

Then I had my MJ on the left side and I March-Charged his HHK trying to pin his MAA block behind them, I also put my second MJ farther up and my Seidr charged his HHG into the flank, however since they were pinned and the Seidr angled bad on my part, he was in the front of the HHG and I couldn’t Close the Door on them because of the impassable terrain! Bad move on my part! So I had to march-charge and doing basically nothing at the HHG with him this turn.
On the right side I went up with my Sea Jötnar to try and bait Raphi into a charge with his Crusader, which he took to my surprise leaving his flank open to my Ugr and losing the zone. My Sea jötnar survived with a few wounds left exactly like I planned (not really)

Nords scored the left side (MJ toed my left zone), the middle (thank you Seidr for counting as 6), the right side. 100k scored his left side and his right side got contested thanks to the Ugr and I could catchup for the first time!

Turn 6:

Another big turn and many clashes and casualties later.

Trying to remember the sequencing here: He used his theist supremacy and blessed everything he had, and he also won the supremacy and chose to go first with his MAA on the left flank charged my MJ and killed him in one turn.
I went first with my Sea Jötnar which was still standing and put a bunch of wounds into the crusaders, they clapped back and killed him. I used Ugr and chose to fight his HHK and clashing uninspired, thinking to myself if I do the remaining 9 wounds I can charge into the Crossbows right behind them. I succeeded at that, but looking back this was a move for relatively no gain, because why would I care about the Crossbows (the Chapter mage was in the middle ones) because they wouldn’t do much and cant score anyway.

I moved my trolls up to his zone on the right side, because now also my Ugr weren’t on the zone anymore to threaten the score, leaving the trolls up for a counter charge of the Sicarii which I knew I could survive.
In the middle we had a big brawl with Seidr, Raider and Trolls into his HHG and they survived with one stand left, those pesky little bastards. Nords scored the middle and one right zone, 100k got one left zone, gathering more points for Nords.

Turn 7:

We concluded the game on turn 7, Raphi had basically only one scoring Unit left his big MAA block on the left side. I would kill his Sicarii and the remaining HHG this Turn and would then take over the game until turn 10.

Recap of the game:

It is as always a blast to play against Raphael, he is a very friendly and knowledgeable guy who knows his army. He tried something new and I tried something new with our lists and we had a great game.
In hindsight the obvious weakness of my list is still the failure to bring any Fenr at all to enable my turn 2 scoring as Nords and to put pressure on my opponent (I knew this beforehand but the game showed it bluntly again). It’s also hard but satisfying cracking a big block of dudes with Armor of Dominion, however I’m still not sure what I would do against Gilded Legion with AoD, because they don’t lose anything when you’re engagin them in the flank….
Also my move with the Ugr on turn 6 was bad play and unnecessary risky and my movement of the Seidr could have easily been better.
Overall I am still happy with my deployment of my regiments and I am happy that I was able to hold back for a longer time before overextending, which is usually pretty easy to do, haha!

Thanks for the game Raphi and as always I hope you guys had fun regarding some casual battle reports from our game nights!

Hope to see you on the battlefields of Eä!
