Casual Game double – Game 1: Ardent Dweghom (Hannes) vs Konungyr Nords (exTune)

Hello dear readers,

the heatwave is somehow passing a bit in Europe, although we can escape it with playing Conquest in our cool chilly basements and having a blast playing the game!

Today I am writing a double report. Why? Because my opponent tried out his list against two different ones from me and I think it could be interesting to see how the Ardent Dweghom Rush-List plays!

So, what did I bring: My lovely Konungyr again, into Mortals and Exalted. With a small block of Volva+Huskarls for some sustain and backup.

Lost (3) [180]:

The first scenario we played was Flames of Conquest (one of the five new ones). I have only secondhand experience with the scenario and was excited to get into burning and pillaging stuff, as is my right as Nords! But how that played out, we will see later.

Turn 1

The right side, Bow Chosen ready on the hill.

The left flank, no Nords in sight, but Hold Ballistae + Sorcerer also claiming the hill.

We both roll bad for our reinforcements. One Flame Berserker and Ballistae for my Opponent and only my Bow Chosen with the Konny coming in!
Playing with the terrain setup from the scenario package there: two forests touching the zones, water in the middle, some impassable on the players side and two hills on either side.

Turn 2

Well the heat is turning up, quite literally.
He gets his remaining Ballistae and two Berserkers as well as his Lost with Ancestor, I pick one Raider Unit and roll two additional Mediums as well as my remaining Bow Chosen coming in.
Activating Tribal Tactics for Flank, maybe he tries something with his Berserks.
I have to start and try to stall an position my Raiders on the zones with their toes. One mistake I did was with the central raiders getting in range of his Sorcerer which promptly blasts a Stand away. On the right side my Raiders prepared for an Onslaught, however he missed his March Charge on a 4 and I had my Bow Chosen as my last card and could counter fire his Berserks killing off two stands in short range.
Score: 8 – 0 for Nords, three zones.

Turn 3

Ok a lot is happening right now. He gets all his Units on, I am only missing two Steel Chosen, which gets me the advantage for Surpremacy and I promplty lose it.

No Surpremacies, only Tribal Tactics for me this which was Tenacious +1.
Berserks charging Bow Chosen, getting one Stands and clapped back by them on the right side.
The rest is a slow positioning game:
The left side the Berserks are Moving up and trying a March+Charge into my Raiders but fail. They get some pinging shots from my Bow Chosen killing one Stand.

Central is more repositioning the Raiders and coming up Behind with Huskarls + Volva, healing the Bow Chosen up. His Lost went up and burnt the zone (which is a mistake because you only can burn in T4) behind them Wardens coming up.
Right side is a bit of a stall: Raiders continue to score whereas Bearserks and Steel Chosen trying to back them up. His Wardens + Ardent get onto the Zones with Berserks as Backup. His Ballistae doing some ping shots on my Raiders.

Score went 17:6 for Nords this turn. Three zones + 1 Regiments vs Burning (wrong) + 1 zone.

Turn 4

Its getting messy:
No Supremacy yet for Dweghom, Tribal Tactics Relentless Blows for Nords.
I win the roll off, and focus on the left hand side: Raiders charging Flame Berserkers doing the first hit and nearly killing them getting clapped back a bit. My Bow Chosen finishing them off, another one down before the supremacy!

Centrally he is buffing up his Lost and March-Charging into my Raiders, but his Impacts whiffed. My Raiders try to clap back and also whiff, my Huskarls reposition and charge into the Flank, Impacts taking one Stand out.

The right side is crazy: He March-Charges with his Impact Wardens into my Bow Chosen, they survive with only a handful of wounds. I counter charge with Steel Chosen into the Flank completely wiping the unit and my Bow Chosen get 6 (!) points of healing from my Volva getting back a stand for them which is huge! My Raiders stand their ground for scoring and my last Activation are the Zarks March-Charging into his Flame Berserker to bind them.

Scoring went 24 : 8 for Nords. One zone + killing vs killing

Turn 5

Sadly no Picture here.

I win the roll off and use the Konny all Tribal Tactics this turn, he also uses his Supremacy mainly for the +4 Lethal Demise, because he hasn’t gotten many Ping damage on his units except the Lost.
Berserks go first wiping his Flame Berserks which in turn nearly kill the Zarks. His next ones are Wardens on the left side wiping the floor with my Raiders and going straight into my Bow Chosen.
My Steel Chosen lie in wait and Charge+Clash his Wardens killing them and getting wiped in the backdrop. Always die fighting and Lethal Demise sucks for Nords 😀
His Ballistae kill of my Zarks, my Raiders go into his Ballistae on the left side.
In the central I go first with my Huskarls + Volva, and killing the Lost, which did some burning of Zones beforehand and killing the Raiders. The backhand swing is not as brutal against D4+RR6, so they come nearly unscraped out of it.
His Wardens try to get a charge on my Steel Chosen but fail, leavin them open for a Countercharge and getting wiped.

The game was done at this point, he had no scoring unit left and could only try to pick up some units of mine.

Scoring: 35-15 for Nords this game!

Afterthoughts:
Intense game against those early rush lists. Feels super weird as Nords playing the reactive game. Without my Bow Chosen I think I’m just struggling against all those Lethal Demise, Aura of Death, Die Fighting because my units are killing themselves on him.
Loving the tense game!

Casual Game double – Game 2: Ardent Dweghom (Hannes) vs Konungyr Nords (exTune)

Game two, I changed up my list here to Half-Bloods with Vargyr Lord to try out the smashing Pig stuff haha:

=== The Last Argument of Kings ===
Vargyrr [2000/2000]
Nords
== Vargyr Lord [135]: Massive Frame, Vicious Assault
Goltr Beastpack (3) [165]:
Goltr Beastpack (3) [165]:
Fenr Beastpack (3) [140]:
Fenr Beastpack (3) [140]:

== Blooded [130]: Figurehead of the Naglfar, Promise of Flesh
Stalkers (3) [130]:
Goltr Beastpack (3) [165]:
Stalkers (3) [130]:
Werewargs (3) [160]:

== (Warlord) Vargyr Lord [140]: Call the Hunt
Trolls (4) [240]:
Werewargs (3) [160]:

We played Seek and Destroy this time

For the chosen regiments we picked:
Nords, Fenr+Fenr+Goltr
Dwegh, All Wardens.
Easy pickings with not many different units to choose from haha 😀
Terrain was setup like the scenario requestes from us.

Turn 1

Crazy reinforcements by both of us, we bring in all of our lights, meaning 3 Berserkers und 2 Ballistae for him vs my double Stalkers double Werewargs, damn. Standoff turn 1, setting up the scene with Wargs eyeing the Ballistae and a rather uncontested left flank for the Berserker as my Stalkers tried to pressure the middle a bit.

Turn 2

Im overwhelming now with Card advantage as I get four units automatically (Fenr,Fenr,Picked Trolls, and another Pigs) but nothing else.
For him only his picked Lost with Ancestor come in.
This meant I was trying to setup pressure with my Wargs on the right side, which I did as my last activation. I set them up to be in Auto-in charge range, in hindsight this was a mistake and I should’ve tried a March+Charge on the 3+ for the Ballistae, oh well.
My Fenr go to score the Zones, however the left Fenr get March+Charged by Flame Beserker on 5+ and they promptly get shot in the Flank by my Stalkers loosing a Stand.

Scoring 4:0 for Nords, Zone+Chosen Regiment scores.

Turn 3

Now here happens a lot. We have a long thinking pause for our deck construction and how to approach things.
I wanted to try to storm down the right flank, but also be wary of his Supremacy and the roll-off would be equal, 13 cards vs 13 cards.
I lost the roll-off, noone of us activated the Surpremacy and he started with his Sorcerer into Ballistae.
6 Fireball hits, and 12 Hits from Ballistae and Sorcerer later he wiped my Werewargs + Vargyr Lord. Completely unnecessary risk from my side, great move by him!
This led to my other Werewargs Charging into his Flame Berserkers and killing them and getting a few wounds back.
Nextup where Flame Berserkers against my Fenr, killing 1 and a half stand, thanks to the Water and they got promptly shot up by my Stalkers again, leavin them with 1 Wound left… which would spell the end for my Fenr as Die fighting + Aura of Death + Lethal Demise would be coming their way… damn!
Trolls positioned themselbes infront of the water on the right side. His Lost charged into my Werewargs which had themselves exposed and deleting them.
Backup Wardens came from the middle and right side. My Pigs came in from the Flank on the right side as well as the left side to threatne his Berserker.

However his Pathfinding Ardent left his Wardens the easy counter Charge on the left side, which I completely forgot and he played that perfectly here.

Scoring went 8:6 for Nords, Zone vs killing stuff.

Turn 4

Now the cookie crumbled completely for me here.
I won the roll off, went first and didn’t use my Surpremacy this turn thinking I wouldn’t need it. He used his giving everything Lethal Demise +4 and healing them up.
I went with my right side Pigs first, chomping down the Ballistae and getting two stands killed in return Lethal Demise (16) and Die Fighting from Hero+Command stand…. bad day for D3 pigs, its just a great counter for Nords haha!
Nextup where his Ancestor + Lost, buffing up the Wardens with Relentless and charging down the last pig.
Then I had my Trolls trying for a desperate Charge on 6 on his central Wardens to get out of reach of his right Wardens, fearing the easy clapback, but failed the charge roll.
His other Wardens where next on the left side cleaning up the pigs easily there, because of the flank charge and everything else they got going there, they are a real blender!

Stalkers shot some stuff, but doing not much.
His Wardens went up next, easy Juggernaut Charge thanks to the Ardent, and Flurry + Relentless Blows (typicall Nord Combo and he let me taste my own medicine here) and 17 hits with 17 wounds later, my Troll nearly evaporated there on the spot, leavin them with 3 wounds.

We had a little bit of repositioning then and there but that turn put the nail in the coffin.

Score: 9:16 for Dweghom

Turn 5

Well, I won the Supremacy again, used the ability and went first with Vargyr into Trolls to get them a bit more healthy and doing a few wounds to the Wardens. He went with his Flame Berserkers and trying a Charge on 3+ missing the Stalkers.
I went up with my Fenr, maneuvered them in the flank of the Wardens and killed them handily, Shock and Opportunist and Fury on the rules.
They get charged by the Lost then. My other Stalkers did some pinging shots on the Wardens, they in turn killed them centrally and they in turn got killed by my pigs which then died to Die Fighting + Hold Ballistae.
This was basically the end and we shook hands here.

Score ending: 17:21 for Dweghom! (I had basically no more units left)

Afterthoughts:
Well, Ardent is heavily aggressive and it feels like such an uphill battle against all those Aura of Death, Lethal Demise, Die fighting and huge number of volume attacks for an equally aggressive list. I’m also inexperienced with the list and made some huge errors turn 2 with the Werewargs and my overall positioning and my opponent did really well this game leaving me no breathing room this time!
Can’t wait to play again!

Hope you enjoyed the read!
Keep on Conquestin’
