Hi people!
It’s me, Lukas and I got another game of sweet Weaver Courts for you! This time I went against Alex and his Wadhrun. It was a really good and close game and an absolute banger!
I played the same list as last time, since I wanted to try all the units against non Old Dominion.

Lets dive right into the game!
Round 1
We start in Spring. He gets both his Slingers, I get my Kern with Rhun Sidhe and one unit of Whisps.

Round 2
It’s Summer!
I got my lights and 2 Mediums and decided for Crann and Moths, to get onto the zones. He got both units of Veterans, the Braves and the Warbred.
Since I have less units on the field, I decided to play it slowly and let him come into me – if he wants to. Scoring was even anyway, so no rush for anything. His slingers start shooting and do like 3 wounds to the Crann already.
It’s 7 to 7 pointswise.

Round 3
It’s Autumn now.
So I get everything but the Scathcha Hunters. He gets all of his units on the board.
A lot is happening this turn! On the left flank I move my Whisps in the way of Warbred, who could have charged my Moths otherwise. I wanted to set up a potential play in which I fly over the Warbred and onto his zone. Sadly he stacked his deck correctly and his very last card is the Warbred, who then chants and charges the whisps without retaliation. Thankfully he rolls super bad and they survive with 1 (!) wound! That’s big!
In the middle of the board, he shoots with his slingers at the Crann, doing another 2 wounds to them and then moves back a bit. I go for a cheeky march-charge with the Whisps into the slingers but I fail.
Alex then goes for a March Charge with the Braves on the right flank into the middle Whisps. His Goal is to get the braves onto the Objective and the Queen (represented by a Scion of War, since he packed the wrong models) more into the middle of the battlefield. He is aware of a charge into his flank with the Crann, so he deploys his second Unit of Warbred in a way so he can charge the flank of my Crann then. Also he could charge the Veterans into the rear of the Cranns.
Thankfully, I stacked my deck correctly and had the Crann go before my Dancers. So the Crann really go for the charge into the Braves-Flank. But since they are Crann, they do not do that much damage. Also the Queen has not activated yet and after her healing I did like 7 wounds in total. It’s a start I guess. I then use the Dancers as a backup to protect the Crann rear against the Veterans. If he goes for it, I coil then charge the Veterans in the rear with the dancers and would probably kill them. So he decides to not take the bait.
Sadly my Crann went off the objective and the Dancers are too slow to get onto the objective. So I get behind in points
It’s 8 to 11 now for the Wadhrun!

Round 4
Winter is coming!
I got my last unit and we are in for some fighting! I lose supremacy and Alex goes first, activating the Queen and entouraging into the Braves. I lost the Whisps in the front and one Crann at the flank (he only had one wound left due to the slinger shooting).
I activate my Crann, but do not manage to kill the remaining Braves – they survive on 2 wounds. But I use the Crann special to get some seed tokens – feels good when it works!
Alex then goes for a charge with his Veterans in the middle of the board into my Kern Skirmishers with Rhun Sidhe. He needs a 4 with Re-roll and sadly, he fails. I am still not sure if this was the right move to be honest…
My Kern then kill the last few wounds of the Braves, while my Crann evaporates to the Warbred who charge into their flank.
On the left side, the Warbred who got stuck in the Whisps kills off the last wound and charge into the moths, killing a whole stand with the Impacts. I clap back, do some damage and activate my Spellcaster to throw some Damage spells into the Warbred. She consumes 3 seeds to get to Wizard 8 and does a lot of Damage. I reduce the Warbred to 1 Stand remaining with two wounds. At this moment, the Gemred are still blocked by the Warbred and cannot charge anything. But I got a whole unit of Kern left, who shot into the flank of the Warbred to do the last two damage. Sadly, due to extremely good Saves, I only do one damage with my shooting.
Anyway, I march the Gemred sideways and Charge the Veterans in the middle of the board. Guys, Gemreds are really a crazy unit, but I will move this discussion to the conclusion of the game I guess. So with Juggernaut and Movement 7 and ignoring Hindering, they got into the Veterans, doing some crazy damage. But sadly no Clash, because that Warbred survived…
He activated his Apex and tried a March Charge through the middle Forest into Kern Skirmishers with Rhun Sidhe. Sadly he failed the 3 with Re-rolls. I think that this charge would have been a mistake anyway and it was better for him to have the Apex on the middle. But who knows.
My Draic then activates and charges into the Veterans. He absolutely kills them – again triggering Abundant Harvest for a lot of seeds! Man, I love that upgrade so much!
On the Right flank, my Scaile Dancers use their Double Time Draw-Event to fly over the heads of the already activated second unit of Veterans to claim his zone (he only was on the zone with his two backrank stands).
I scored three zones to his one zone, which he sadly nominated.
So it’s 13 to 14 now.

Round 5
It’s spring again!
I use my supremacy to have another turn in winter. I lose Supremacy, he goes first and charges the Apex into my Draic. Since we are fighting in a forest, my Draic survives the Kind of Monsters with 6 wounds remaining. I activate my Gemreds, use the Warlord bloom and charge into the flank of the Apex. Thanks to Re-Roll 6s on Impacts and the Flank charge, I manage to kill the Apex with the Impacts alone. Which then allowed me to move in the flank of the Warbred with my Gemreds again, doing more shenanigans. He activates his Slingers and shoots my Draic to death. Not my boy!
Also he turns his Veterans on the right flank around and charges the Dancers, but at this point, it does not make any difference.
I simply have more scoring units and more heavy lifters left. The slingers die in a hail of arrows and the Warbred get mulched by spells and Gemreds, while the Veterans would have to wait for their death, delivered by angry moose.
On the left my moths play hide and seek with the blooded, bombing them nearly every round – also nothing to do for the Wadhrun!

Game ends, we did not calculate it till the end, but it’s a huge victory for the Weavers!
Thanky Alex for the really good game! It was close till it wasn’t, but failing the two charges was certainly not in your favour!
Second Weavers impression
Oh boy, Weaver Courts are fun to play!
It feels like you have to make so many decisions that add up to a cohesive and entertaining gameplay. Deciding in which season you start, when and where to bloom and put your seeds – thats so fucking cool! In general, I am in love with the faction already <3
So unit-wise I learned a lot. Whisps are great, we already knew that. Crann are great and I think I will always take one unit. Kern are absolutely mandatory and really, really good as well!
The Scathcha Hunters did not see a single fight, but I more and more feel like they are not worth their points. Maybe I am wrong, I will have to test them a bit more. At the moment, I would rather take some moths or even Crann Guardians.
The Dancers are super cool and are so versatile, I really like them. They are just not as tanky as you would think they are and don’t do as much damage as you would think they do. But they are still great!
The Scoth Draic is not only my favourite unit model wise, but also performed really well (again!). I do like him quite a bit and will try him next without a rider I guess…
Gemreds… Yeah, this unit is really, really good. To be honest, I am not sure if such a unit should exist. Heavy Impact Cav with Movement 7 and Juggernaut AND Ignoring Hindering is a bit extreme. Also you don’t even have to work for the Juggernaut when you put a Caster into the Unit. Don’t get me wrong, I love these guys and I am super happy with them, but I think they are frustrating to play against and do not have that much counterplay.
I am also aware that they do a lot of heavy lifting for the army, but I also feel dirty using them…
The Spellcaster Warlord. I did like them a lot. Double cast is amazing and the redistribution of seeds is nice to have. But the last point didn’t feel that necessary at all.
The Bloom effect is nice to have, but also not a gamechanger. As predicted by the internet already, I think the wizard is a solid choice!
Next I want to try some other lists with other units and compositions. Weavers have so many different ways to build your army now – I am damn excited!
